Background

Born and raised in the town of Ahilyanagar, situated in Maharashtra, India, I was surrounded by a family that held a deep appreciation for arts, fostering my love for music, literature, and theatre. The annual music concerts held during the vibrant Ganesh festival at our home ignited my passion for performing arts. Eager to nurture my talent, my parents enrolled me in music lessons at a local school.

Few years later, my parents guided me towards the revered ‘Guru-Shishya’ tradition to study classical music, emphasizing on a dedicated study of the gharana repertoire. It was through their guidance that I found myself under the tutelage of Mrs. Kavita Kharwandikar, a distinguished vocalist of the Agra-Jaipur gharana, who had relocated to our town from Pune. In 1999, I embarked on a journey of studying Khayal and semi-classical forms under the mentorship of Kavita tai and the journey continues to date.

I concurrently obtained a master’s degree in Botany from Pune University. Exploring various career paths, I briefly ventured into teaching life sciences to undergraduate students before transitioning into active research. My research journey led me to earn both Junior and Senior research fellowships at the Molecular Biology Division of the esteemed Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai, India. During my time in Mumbai, I seized the opportunity to study under the profound tutelage of Pt. Shrikrishna Haldankar, my Guru’s guru, further enriching my musical education.

Developing My Passion While Exploring The World.

Since 2013, I’ve devoted myself to music as a full-time career, serving as a performer, educator, and curator.

I hold a bachelor’s degree (Sangeet Visharad) in North Indian Classical Vocal music from the prestigious Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, and I’m currently pursuing my master’s course (Sangeet Alankar).

In 2018, I began studying Tabla at the Ali Akbar College of Music in Basel.

The opportunity to travel and live abroad has provided me with a bird’s eye view, deepening my appreciation for Indian music while also exposing me to a diverse range of musical genres.

In 2019, I was honoured with a fellowship from Rasarang Gurukul, Pune, to delve deeper into the Agra gharana repertoire.

KalpaRoop Centre for Indian Classical Music

In 2019, I started the ‘KalpaRoop Centre for Indian Classical Music’, dedicated to providing music education to people of all ages and to promote the appreciation of Indian classical music among diverse audiences.

I continue to perform at various venues in Switerland and India.
